Scrappy Window Mini-Quilt!

I had a lot of fun yesterday digging through my scrap jar!  It was totally full, so I figured it was time for my first scrappy project.  I really enjoyed putting fabrics together for these little tiny blocks.
Although it is far from perfect, I'm really happy with how it turned out and my scrap jar now has a little open space for my next creation!...Now I just need to decide whether to make my little quilt top into a pillow or a mini-quilt?!😘

Finally finished my Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along Quilt!

I am so excited!!! I just completed my Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along quilt...and just in the nick of time, literally!  The deadline was midnight tonight.  This is the first quilt along, of any kind I have ever been a part of and it's been so much fun!  The Quilt Along is based on an AMAZING book by Lindsay Conner  titled: "Modern Bee: 13 Quilts To Make With Friends".  Being completely new to quilting, this is the book that really inspired me to jump in and give my dream of learning to quilt a try!  Although I know it is far from perfect,  I'm very happy with my first attempt!:)

Mosaic Tile Quilt Along...Blocks completed!

I have finally completed the blocks for my Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along.  They have actually been done for a few days, but since my last post we've had three more snow storms and a mild case of the flu around here.  Oh well, more snow this weekend and next week, too... I think my kids are spending more days at home this winter than at school and actually that's just fine with me!;)  So, these are my blocks(with one to spare, that I will use on my quilt back), I've decided to use this brown swirly fabric for my sashing.  I'm almost done with the quilt top, now and started piecing my back, I will post those pictures in the next few days! Have a wonderful weekend!

Making Progress...Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along Blocks

So...slow and steady wins the race...Right?:)  Well, I'm half way there with my blocks for the Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along...and so far, I'm happy to say, they are turning out pretty well.  I'm starting to get excited about how it will turn out!  It's been a crazy week, I can't believe it's been almost a week since my last post! It feels like we've been in a time warp or something...due to almost a foot of
snow and below zero wind chills, school was closed the ENTIRE past week.  My kids have dubbed it "Christmas Break 2.0"!!  It was actually great being home together and chilling out.  I was able to spend a lot of time in front of my sewing machine and it was wonderful!  Here is a sampling of my blocks, so far:

Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along Update

Week two of  snow days!!!  Everyone was home today and will be again tomorrow... Two full days of quilting... Woohoo!!!  I'm making progress with my Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along project. Today I was  able to make the initial 24 squares that I will cut tomorrow for the blocks. I'm really excited to see how it will turn out! I'm still deciding whether or not to use sashing in my quilt, as was done in the book. I guess I'll just have to see how it's looking after finishing the blocks.:)

Getting ready for my first quilting class!

I'm so excited!!!  Tomorrow morning I will be heading to my first quilting class. I've been planning on finding a class for a while, and can't wait to get started.:)  I was told that I will need four fabrics for the quilt top. The fabrics I have chosen coordinate with the colors in our guest room, I'm hoping if it turns out well, to hang the quilt on the wall above the head board.  It's a six week class that meets on Saturdays for an hour. I will post pictures of my progress after each class.  Wish me luck!

Fabric choices for the Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along

These are the fabrics I have chosen to use for the Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along!  They are my favorite colors (aqua & green) and match the colors in the room really well.  I plan on making a smaller version of the pattern in the book, which was designed by Sukie Newbold. I'm really excited to get started (hopefully this weekend) and will post my progress as I go!:)

Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along

I have decided to participate in the Lindsay Conner's Mosaic Tiles Quilt Along.  It is based on a pattern from her book "Modern Bee 13 Quilts To Make With Friends".  The book, which I purchased this past Fall, on my Nook, is AMAZING!!!  Being new to quilting and an avid reader, I have been reading as many books, blogs and magazines as I can and Lindsay's book is one of my favorites! So, I decided this should be my first Quilt Along.:)

Cloey's quilt

I designed and started Cloey's quilt this past Fall, after finally deciding to give quilting a try.  The fabric collection I used is called Fun Factor by Fabric Editions. It's bright and colorful and perfect for little girls (and big girls, too!) I finished the quilt top quickly but it sat in my closet until this past week. I spent the  first "snow day" of last week layering, basting and quilting. On Friday, our second day off, due to freezing rain, I finished the binding by hand sewing it to the quilt back and... Drum roll please!!!!... Voila, my first completed quilt!!! It turned out pretty well for a first try, I think (can you tell I'm a tad proud of my accomplishment?;). Can't wait to get started on the next one!!!

My First Quilt!!!:)

Welcome and thanks for stopping by!

Hi, I'm Melissa and welcome to my first blog ever... Baby Steps Quilts. I am a complete rookie to blogging, as well as, quilting and that is where the idea for the name came from.  I am an extremely busy wife and mom, of four wonderful kids! When my two oldest girls were toddlers I decided that I wanted to learn the basics of sewing( something I had refused as a teenager, when my mother had offered, of course!). I was a stay at home mom with my third daughter on the way and figured taking a sewing class would be a way to spend some "me time" out of the house and learn something new. My husband bought my Singer sewing machine on "Black Friday" for $59( which I still use till this day!), I took three sewing classes and the rest is history... Literally!!!  Twelve years and another baby( our eight year old son) later, I have decided to follow my life long dream and learn to quilt!:)
